Time flies when you’re having fun. Isn’t that the truth. I don’t think I have ever realized how fast time goes by. Or how small this world really is. Every time I meet someone in some strange way, we seem to have a connection. And you always hear the phrase “It’s a small world”. Which led me to the conclusion that it really is a small world. If you think about it in 6 hours you can go from Florida to California. That is the complete other side of the country. In that same 6 hours you can go from the United States to Western Europe. Pretty wild.
Talking about things being pretty wild, how about our recent trip. Just this past week we had such an amazing experience. For the first time ever I visited California. The excitement leading up to the trip was almost unbearable. Tuesday August 25th, 4:00 am the alarm rang. 5:00 am the car arrived. 7:00 am the plane departed. 11:30 am (Pacific time) the plane touched down. It really happened. Days before it was just an idea, a thought in the mind. But that day it really happened. Seeing something so new, so far away. How cool. Things quickly took a turn. Being prepared was something I was taught when I was younger however I never really took into consideration how important that message was. We were not prepared. Just a word of advice for those who don’t know, when booking travel arrangements on those wonderful websites; whom claim to give you amazing deals for one low rate, well there are still little extra fees they don’t mention. For example rental car deposits and hotel deposits. Not a super huge ordeal but enough to throw a wrench in the gears.
Okay, all the hassle has been put aside. Were checked in. Our bags in the room. The rental car is ready to rock. Let’s go on an adventure. We’re in Los Angeles. And it’s not everyday that your in Los Angeles. Where to start? What should we see first? Being big fans of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory and his show Rob and Big, we decided why not check out where the Fantasy Factory is. Voila. According the the trusty Mac book pro and good ole’ Google maps, the Fantasy Factory was only 20 minutes away. Let’s do it. Maybe we will get to see them doing something cool. What if we run into Rob? How awesome would that have been? We didn’t get to see Rob but, we did get to see Drama whippin’ his all white Benzo. Sitting side by side in traffic with someone you see on t.v. is pretty cool. The sunset in L.A. and the night time was upon us. So much to see, so little time.
Day two, 6:45 am, who needs an alarm clock when you have excitement running through your blood. Today was the day of an important meeting and a huge stepping stone in this project. Today we would be meeting with our printer. Driving from Los Angeles to Temecula really provided some amazing scenery. The mountains were decorated with homes and communities. The sun was shining, the sky was clear. Radio blasting, our goals were near. Our meeting went very well. At it’s conclusion there was a recommendation to visit San Diego. Since your not in California everyday, that’s where we headed. Just an hour south and we can cross off another city on the list of world travels. Why not? Let’s do it.
Here it is. San Diego. Driving all day surely makes one hungry. And what better meal to have when in California than sushi. Some of the best sushi I have ever had in a very long time. Probably the freshest sushi one could find. If you have searched far and wide for a delicious treat of raw fish and fresh vegetables and well haven’t found it yet. Go to Sapporo’s in San Diego right by the water. A real hole in the wall but, the real holes in the walls are where you find the best food and the friendliest people. Our waitress was a zippy little Japanese lady who didn’t short us on any one liners. She was filled with personality and really made our stay fun. The food was great and the atmosphere was on point.
The Pacific Ocean is amazing. Driving all the way up the coast of California on the I-5 while looking at the Pacific Ocean is even more amazing. Coming from San Diego back to Los Angeles we decided to take the scenic route. The last night in California was approaching us. Weeks prior to this trip conversations were held about how great it would be to stand atop a mountain and look down at the coast. How awesome would it feel to be on top of the world. The Pacific Coast Highway was dark. The streets were clearing. It was nearly midnight. Our plane was going to leave tomorrow afternoon. Heck let’s just stay out late. Following the windy coast line we ended up at a random, unsuspecting right hand turn. Let nature lead the way. She will take us to where we were supposed to go. This unsuspecting right turn was adorned with curvy, winding roads. Some spots dropped straight off. Some spots homes were plopped on a cramped sliver of a lot. Twisting and turning nature finally brought us to where we were supposed to be. High, atop a mountain overlooking the coast just how we had envisioned.
The city of Malibu was lit with shimmering speckles of light. The ocean was serene. The air was cool and calm. It was a beautiful night. A night significant to all that we have worked towards. Weeks back this was all a dream. Just a thought in our minds. But that night it was all a reality. A reminder of what we had achieved thus far and what we are going to achieve. Staring out into the dark sky my mind was left to wander.
Night turned into day. Bags packed. Checked out. Car is back to the facility and were on our way to L.A.X.. The final chapter. The flight home was just as amazing as the time we spent in California. We met some really amazing people who enjoyed the excitement just as much as we did. We had some great conversations. And exchanged some hearty laughs. We all came from different places but found each other just by chance. Or was it? In any event and what ever you choose, California was amazing.
